Floral Artistry -A study in untamed loveliness

3hr class with Saree Silverman
Friday, June 28 @ 10am

Flowers, grasses, branches, seedpods, berries and vines are unapologetic in the way they grow.  Vines climb up walls and engulf buildings, branches twist and turn in seemingly non sensical ways, and flower stems squiggle in every which direction.

Join us for this truly special workshop where we learn the art of arranging flowers in a way that honors nature’s untamed loveliness.  A far departure from the traditional method of tight and contrived arrangements, you will learn to create intuitive works of art that are organic yet thoughtful, kinetic yet refined, and wild yet intentional.

We will cover color theory, how to create movement with in an arrangement and how to think about shape to create pieces that are sculptural and unique  This is a time to tap into your innate creativity, revel in nature’s beauty, and connect with creatives in your local community. Leave with an arrangement in hand, a vessel to keep, guidelines for continued practice and professionally styled photos of your work.

A little about Saree, our amazing instructor:

Saree Silverman comes to Chattanooga by way of San Francisco, and we are so honored to have her talent in our beautiful city. Saree has become a fast friend of POMKT with her inspiring creativity and enthusiasm for the arts and exploring new ways to create work using different mediums. The artistry of floral arranging is a class that explores not just creating simple arrangements, but looking at each piece as an art project.

From the artist:

“As an artist my work is primarily inspired by nature. More specifically, I am interested in the idea of harmonious systems. Theories of collective behavior, emergence, stigmergy and swarm intelligence continue to inform my work.

The work itself is process based and intuitive.  Whether it’s a drawing made up of thousands of tiny marks or a large scale installation, one mark on the page or manipulation of the material leads to another and another until a larger system is formed. Thereby. leading to an intriguing formal or conceptual outcome.

To put it simply, however, my work is about re-discovering wonder - being curious, enchanted and awed by the beauty and complexity of the world. And the art itself is about sharing that fascination.”
